SAFARI ACTIVITIES AT CHOBE CHILWERO

1. Guided Game Drives

Thrilling guided game drives in open vehicles bring visitors to the heart of Africa’s largest concentration of elephants, as well as hippos, buffalos, puku, antelopes, lions and other creatures that gather on the Chobe River’s banks. Elephants feature largely on any activity at Chobe Chilwero. Game drives in open-sided 4 x 4 vehicles bring these grey giants into easy reach as they drink and frolic at the water’s edge in their boisterous herds. Open safari vehicles are driven by an experienced guide who points out various animals that you almost certainly wouldn’t even notice. Hippos, buffalos, puku, antelope, lions and other creatures that gather on the banks of the Chobe River are common sightings. The guide will also give you the names of the colourful birds and other animals that you come across. Early mornings and late evenings drives are good times to view animals.

2. Sundowner Cruises

Sundowner Cruises are organized on the Chobe River. They offer one of the best ways to end a safari day. Specially designed riverboats take guests up close to elephants as they wade in the river or near to the buffalo who gather on its shores. Sundowner cruises are also a great way of seeing animals up close as they come out of the shade to graze in the cooler evenings.

3. Fishing Excursions

These are arranged on request. They are taken to Chobe Safari Lodge jetty for the activity. Here they are handed over to the coxswain and agree on a pickup time for the transfer back to the lodge. The winter months of May, June, July and August present the best season for fishing at Chobe Chilwero because that’s when the water is slowing down. The types of fish guests can expect to catch are Bream and Tiger Fish, on a catch and release basis.

4. Victoria Falls Tours

Your stay at Chilwero would really be incomplete if you don’t visit Victoria Falls. The lodge is only an hour and a half’s drive from the spectacular Victoria Falls. Chobe Chilwero is a great base from which to explore this great wonder of the world. The tour usually takes one and a half hours stopping at the various viewing points. Guests are advised to wear appropriate clothing and shoes for the walk, as well as suitable waterproof gear for camera equipment.
