Kakum National Park

Situated approximately 33km north of Cape Coast and Elmina in the Central Region of Ghana near the small town of Abrafo, Kakum National Park is one of the greatest and most popular national parks in Ghana. It was established in 1960 and covers an area of 350 sq km. Also a priority area for wildlife conservation in Ghana, Kakum National Park is one of the country’s finest wildlife jungles noted for diverse & rich flora and fauna.

Wildlife at Kakum National Park:

Kakum National Park is home to elephants, monkeys and the elusive bongo antelopes which are commonly spotted roaming in the bushy areas of the park. Other commonly seen animals in the jungle of Kakum include the endangered Mona-meerkat, as well as pygmy elephants, forest buffalo, civet cats and over 550 species of butterflies.
The dense vegetation plays host to several endangered species such as the forest elephant and bongo – the largest forest antelope, as well as other numerous varieties of monkeys.
