The highest temperatures during this time can reach around 43˚C with lower temperatures in areas near the sea. The Harmattan period starts from November to February.


Government: Constitutional republic headed by a democratically elected President. Current Head of State is H.E. President Adama Barrow since 19 January 2017.

Atop the shield is set the heraldic helmet of a knight and an oil palm above it. The two lions represent the colonial history of The Gambia as part of the British Empire. The crossed axe and hoe represent the importance of agriculture to the country. The palm tree above the heraldic crest is a central national tree. The national motto is at the bottom.

Culture: The Gambia is culturally diverse. The two major cultural groups are the Mandinka and the Fulani.
